Noah Tamarkin's book given awards

Noah Tamarkin's book "Genetic Afterlives: Black Jewish Indigeneity in South Africa" (Duke University Press, 2020) has recently received two awards.

Tamarkin's book received a Diana Forsythe Prize honorable mention and a Jordan Schnitzer Book Award from the Association for Jewish Studies. 

The Diana Forsythe Prize celebrates the best book or series of published articles in the spirit of Diana Forsythe’s feminist anthropological research on work, science, or technology, including biomedicine.

The Jordan Schnitzer Book Award is made possible by funding from Jordan Schnitzer and Arlene Schnitzer through the Harold & Arlene Schnitzer Family Fund of the Oregon Jewish Community Foundation. The categories in the 2021 competition were Jewish Literature and Linguistics, Medieval and Early Modern Jewish History and Culture, Modern Jewish History and Culture: Africa, Americas, Asia, and Oceania, and Philosophy and Jewish Thought.

Tamarkin is Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Science & Technology Studies at Cornell University.
